House Party overview
- What is houseparty.com?
House Party (houseparty.com) is a company that makes it easy to have a party in your own home and get exclusive access to awesome products for you and your friends. We provide the fun, you provide food, friends and feedback and promise to have an amazing time. Our parties are sponsored by the brands you love. By hosting, you and your guests get to try their products and receive a Party Pack chock full of goodies! You don’t pay anything or sell anything. It’s a no-pressure party. Just tell us what you and your guests think.
But it’s more than just you and your friends who are having a blast. Thousands of other hosts and guests from across the US (and sometimes the world) are also having a great time, on the same day. And with our interactive website and your own party page, you can invite guests, post pictures and videos, have conversations and more, all before the party even happens. It’s a party online and off!
To see some of the fun we’ve had over the years, check out past parties.
Basic account information
- What is My Home?
My Home (formerly known as your Dashboard) is home base in the House Party world. It lists the parties you're hosting, parties you're a guest of, as well as the status of recent host applications you've completed. (Past applications are in the Past Applications page.)
My Home is the first page in the main navigation when you’re signed in.
- Do I need to re-register for houseparty.com on the new website?
No. Your House Party account is just as fun as it ever was. All your information, including your member name and password remain the same.
The application process
- Why am I being asked all these questions about what I own, etc.?
Each House Party is sponsored by a specific brand or product. That product is likely to be a better fit for certain people than others (e.g., a party about diapers would not be the right fit for a single person with no children). In order for us to best target the people who would be optimal hosts for each party, we ask you for basic information about yourself. And with our new process, you just need to answer all your basic demographic questions once. Then the next time you apply to a party, you won’t have to answer them again. Once and you’re done.
- How does House Party select its hosts?
First, you complete the online application, which asks you a variety of questions about your knowledge of the sponsor brand and what you are willing to do if selected. (If you are not yet a member of House Party, your application will be longer the first time.)
From everyone who completes the application, we choose a pool of hosts who fit House Party's and the sponsor's host criteria. These criteria can vary widely from party to party, which includes a number of different variables chosen by House Party and the party sponsor. Unfortunately, as a policy, we are not able to disclose the criteria for a specific party.
After each application that you complete, you can also attempt to increase your chances.
If you didn’t receive a confirmation email but believe you’ve completed an application, please contact us at email@example.com.
- I received a confirmation email. Does that mean I've been chosen to host?
No. Every person who registers with House Party (creates a member name and password) receives a confirmation email. A confirmation email is also sent after you complete a party application. These are just courtesies to let you know we received your information. Neither of these are host notifications.
You can control your email preferences by going to your Emails & Notifications page.
- What if I don't receive an email notification?
Check My Home! At any given point in time, My Home will have the most up-to-date information about your account and applications.
We know that email is not a perfect medium and some email providers may block our email. Be sure to check your spam email folder and follow your mail provider's instructions on how to ensure delivery of desired mail. House Party emails typically come from firstname.lastname@example.org.
- How do I know if I'm selected?
You’ll receive an email notifying you that either you’ve been selected to send invitations or you haven’t been selected for the party. You can also check My Home.
Typically, only a certain number of applicants will make it into a party and become official hosts.
The email will contain a link to the House Party website, where you’ll be guided through the process of inviting your guests. If the link doesn’t work, you can sign in to your House Party account at www.houseparty.com/login and go to My Home.
Please note that some parties have incredible demand, so to make it more fair, those parties will have a time limit on inviting your guests. Once you receive an email, it’s important for you to sign in and invite the required number of guests, in the amount of time allotted, to ensure you’re selected as a host. If time runs out, you may be given more time to complete this task if slots are still available.
Since email is not a perfect medium (our email may reach your junk or spam email folder, for example), we also announce when host selection starts on both our Facebook page and Twitter feed. If you see that host selection has begun, check My Home! You don’t need to wait for an email to reach your inbox in order to check your host status and start inviting your guests.
Sign in to your House Party account and visit My Home to check out your current applications.
- Will I receive an email if I’m NOT chosen to be a host?
You’ll receive an email letting you know that you haven’t been chosen to host. You can also check My Home.
Please note that if on My Home it says “Your application is still being considered,” then you are still in the running to be chosen to host. You are only truly out of the running when you see a note on My Home telling you that you weren’t selected to be a host for this event. If you’re ever curious about or confused by your status, feel free to contact us at email@example.com. We’re happy to help!
- I want to apply to host a party, but I'm not sure if I can host on the designated party date.
We ask that everyone who signs up to host a party carefully consider the Official Party Day when they complete the application and follow through with the party, especially since the number of households and number of available Party Packs are limited. It’s also important to keep in mind that all communications including surveys and emails are sent based on this Official Party Day. Even more importantly, Party Packs are typically scheduled to arrive about 5 to 7 days before the Official Party Day. We can’t expedite Party Packs.
If you have doubts about whether you’ll be able to host a party on the assigned date, please hold off on completing the application and wait for another opportunity to host a party. If you’re unsure about your particular situation, don’t hesitate to contact firstname.lastname@example.org – we’ll be able to work with you to determine the best course of action.
- I applied to host a few House Parties. Can I be selected to host more than one House Party per Official Party Weekend?
No. It's House Party policy that any given host can only host one House Party per Official Party Weekend.
- How does host selection work?
The host selection process is a living, moving thing, which means that notification dates and times can change sometimes. Hosts of a given party are not always selected at the exact time. In fact, in some instances the host selection process can span up to several days.
You’ll be notified of your status by email. Additionally, you can check your host status by signing in to your House Party account and checking out My Home. That page always has the most up-to-date information about your account and applications. Please also note that we typically post when host selection starts on our Facebook page and on Twitter.
And before host selection begins, you can do some additional activities to show us how much you want to be a host.
*If you believe that you may have more than one House Party account, please contact email@example.com. It’s a policy of House Party that each individual holds only one account.
- If I take all the "Stand out" steps, will I be guaranteed a host spot?
No. The options to “Stand out” are not guarantees of a host spot. Many great applicants participate in this process and we can’t make guarantees on host selection. What you’ll hopefully discover is that getting involved with a party before host selection allows you to learn more about the products you love and talk with fellow community members about things you’re interested in.
- Does my House Party have to be at my actual home?
No, not necessarily.
As long as you and your guests are able to experience and share the product, you can have the party outside (sometimes this can even add to the party experience), or wherever you like. No matter where the party’s held, we encourage people to take and upload videos and photos — we love to see all of the creative and interesting ways our hosts throw their House Parties!
- Does it matter what day I hold my House Party?
House Party is designed to create an Official Party Day. On the scheduled date, people from all across the country (or even the world) will be joining in the same party on the same day. It's a cool thing to be a part of, and your party’s an important part!
It’s also important to keep in mind that all communications including surveys and emails are sent based on this Official Party Day. Even more importantly, Party Packs are typically scheduled to arrive about 5 to 7 days before the Official Party Day. We can’t expedite Party Packs.
- Does it matter what time I hold my House Party?
Most of the time, no.
The exact time of your party is entirely up to you. Pick a time that works best for your family and your guests. However, some parties are targeted around the premiere of a TV show, or a live video stream and in that case, we encourage you to coincide your party with that time.
- I’ve been chosen to host, but can no longer host on the party date. Can I reschedule?
If sickness or a family emergency makes it impossible to keep your party on the scheduled date, don't worry. While ideally every host will throw their House Party on the Official Party Day, we understand that unpredictable situations like this arise from time to time. We still want you to participate in the party, share the experience with your friends and use your party page to share your thoughts, pictures and videos.
You can reschedule your House Party, but be aware that scheduling your party for a date prior to the Official Party Day may result in not receiving your Party Pack in time for the party. Be sure to do it as soon as possible — we want you and your guests' voices to be heard!
To change the party time and date go to My Home and click on “Edit my party’s details” on the right hand side. You may also want to include a note to your guests noting the date change. When you send invitations, they will reflect your new party date.
We hope that, regardless of the date you host your party, you’ll still upload lots of pictures and videos, check your party page often, chat with your guests and enjoy all the great free stuff in your Party Pack.
Check out “How To Reschedule My Party” to learn more.
- What if I can't reschedule?
If you know well in advance that you won’t be able to host a House Party, even though you have the option to reschedule, let us know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. If you tell us far enough in advance, we can stop the shipment of your Party Pack and offer another lucky person the opportunity to host.
- What’s in my Party Pack?
It varies from party to party. Most Party Packs accommodate 10 to 15 guests.
The contents of your Party Pack will be listed in the Party FAQ (a FAQ page dedicated to the event). You can view this anytime. Simply visit the Main Party Page and mouse over the Main tab. Click the Party FAQ link which appears underneath.
- I have a lot of guests coming. May I request extra items in my Party Pack?
Sorry, because of the length of time it takes to obtain Party Pack items, pack the boxes and ship them, it’s impossible to accommodate the varying numbers of guests and last minute RSVPs to some parties. Please note that you can see the complete contents of your Party Pack by visiting the Main Party Page and mousing over the Main tab to reveal the link to the Party FAQ. We want you to be able to plan your guest list accordingly!
Please note: All hosts of a particular House Party receive the exact same Party Pack.
If you have more guests coming than goodie bags (if provided) or items in your box, we suggest the following strategies:
- Raffle off goodie bags or individual items
- Use goodie bags or individual items as prizes for games
- Eliminate goodie bags entirely and put all the items in one big grab bag for giveaways or prizes
- If cups and plates are provided and you don’t have enough, simply buy extras that coordinate with the free ones in your pack
These strategies have not only worked in the past but have enhanced the fun at many parties.
- Can I print invitations?
No. We no longer have the print invitation feature.
House Party is making a concerted effort to improve the party experience for all our members. With the new and improved invitation tool, your guests should easily be able to RSVP on houseparty.com. (We’re sorry that this presented some problems in the past). You can now easily import addresses from many email or social accounts, and we promise not to store these addresses or spam your guests. It’s simply to make your invitation process better and easier.
If you have guests you’d like to invite to your House Party who don’t have email addresses or are web savvy, OF COURSE you can invite them! You’ll simply need to invite them outside of the House Party site. However they won’t show up on your Guest List or RSVPs.
Not to worry – there are plenty of other actions you can take to make sure we know you threw an awesome party.
Update: We were surprised to hear from so many members that they really liked printing invitations. So, we’re working on bringing back the option to print! (For those high-demand parties that require you to send a minimum number of invitations by email, the print option will be available from your Party Page after you successfully email the required minimum.)
- What if I want my guests (with no computer or email) to show up on my Guest List?
They won’t show up on your Guest List, but there are plenty of ways to show us you threw a great House Party!
If you have guests you’d like to invite to your House Party who don’t have email addresses or are web savvy, OF COURSE you can invite them! You’ll simply need to invite them outside of the House Party site. However they will not show up on your Guest List or RSVPs.
Not to worry – there are plenty of other actions you can take to make sure we know you threw an awesome party. This includes uploading a group photo to your party page to show us everyone having a great time.
- Will I be reimbursed for the money I spend on my Party?
No. As a House Party host, you’ll receive your Party Pack and free access to your party page. Beyond these items, you’re responsible for anything – food, decorations, party favors, etc., that you choose to provide for your guests.
- What if my invited guests have not responded?
Get on the horn! Call your guests up and ask them what's up. Ask if they're having trouble RSVPing. (Although our new invitation tool should alleviate any RSVP issues.) Ask if they’ve received the email invitation and remind them to check their spam or junk folder.
You can also resend your invitations by clicking the ‘Resend Invitations’ link on the right hand side of your My Party page (linked from My Home).
- What is a public RSVP page, and how do I make one?
To invite guests you may not have an email address for, or to invite guests on another website, you can create an RSVP page with a unique and secure URL to send to your guests through any means you'd like! Please be sure to only send this link to people you would like to attend your House Party. We advise against posting it publically. The RSVP page includes all of your party details - pretty much everything that would appear on an invitation!
To create an RSVP page for your House Party, simply:
1. Log into your House Party account
2. Visit your House Party from your My Home page
3. Click the "Edit my party's details" link on the right side
4. At the top of the page, click "Get a public RSVP page!"
5. Copy and paste the link that appears into an email, Facebook event - whatever you like! - to send to your guests
Then, your guests will be able to RSVP for themselves, as long as they enter an email address. Don’t worry – guests’ email addresses are ONLY used to send information about your party specifically and the post-party survey. Guests are in control of the option to subscribe to the House Party newsletter.
House Party emails
- As a host or a guest of a House Party, what mailing lists am I added to?
For each House Party, partygoers (hosts and guests) are sent infrequent emails specific to the event. (In other words, they are added to an event mailing list.) These are very important emails that may announce the availability of a special offer on the party site (or on a sponsor's website), an exclusive contest for event members only, notification about the delivery of Party Packs, and much more. House Party does not abuse this mailing list and exercises restraint, reserving it for critical event-related updates only.
Some partygoers have also opted in to the general House Party email list, as well as a handful of other event-specific mailing lists.
You can adjust your contact preferences anytime. Simply sign in to your House Party account, click “Profile” in the upper right of the screen, click the “Edit Account” link that appears underneath “Profile,” and then select the “Emails & Notifications” tab.
- On which mailing lists am I included as a host?
As a host of a sponsored party, you are possibly subscribed to two mailing lists (depending on whether or not you opted in to our general emails during registration).
• The general House Party emails about upcoming parties and promotions
• A selection of party mailing lists, depending on which parties you are involved in, or have participated in
Some people may have also opted in to receive emails from:
• HouseLab, our newest addition, which allows HP members to give feedback on products and brands and get paid for it
• House Party’s partners deals, coupons and contest info
- On which mailing lists am I included as a guest?
As an active member of a sponsored party, you will only receive communication related to that event (depending on whether or not you also subscribed to the general House Party mailing list).
• Surveys, news and other information about your party
• The general House Party email about upcoming parties and promotions (if you opted in to this mailing list)
Guests of House Party events are not added to any mailing lists they don’t subscribe to. We will not spam you, ever.
- What is the general House Party email?
This is how we let you know what’s coming next from House Party and how we keep our community of partygoers (and interested non-partygoers who have joined our mailing list) informed about upcoming parties that are available for hosting. They might also include contest information and other cool offers from House Party.
- Who will see the address where my party’s being held?
Only your invited guests will see the location where your party’s being held.
- Why should my guests register for House Party?
If they don't register, they won't be able to post photos and videos to your party page, nor join in conversation on your party page. Oh, and they won't be able to upload their own profile photo, so your guest list on your party page will make it look like a bunch of avatars will be attending your party! Besides that, the biggest reason is that registered houseparty.com partygoers have a greater chance to participate in sweepstakes and contests. You know how the saying goes, “You've got to be in it, to win it!" So, thank your guests for RSVPing to your party, and tell them why it's best for you AND them if they register. And don't forget to remind them that registration is FREE, and they can leave anytime they want.
- If there is a guest offer that is online only, and do my guests need to register in order to take advantage of the offer?
Online invites: Your guests will need to register with House Party in order to access their online guest offer (if applicable). If you’ve invited them via email, they’ll need to respond to your email, then RSVP and create a member name and password with House Party.
- I have friends and family who live far away or can’t attend. Should I invite them anyway?
Since a lot of your party takes place online, invite out-of-town family and friends and encourage them to visit your party through your Party Page. If they register with House Party when they RSVP to your invitation, they’ll be able to join in the online conversation with you and your guests, view your fun photos and videos, upload their own media, take advantage of generous guest offers (when available) and enjoy the party — even from afar. That’s what House Party is all about!
- Can I unsubscribe from invitations to parties?
No. Unfortunately, if you've received an invitation to a House Party, it was most likely from a friend, family member or acquaintance and we can’t control what they do! You can always let the sender know that you would rather not participate by personally contacting them. Please note, however, that all House Party invitations are generated from our system, so hitting reply when viewing the invitation in your email client will not result in a message directly to the host.
- How do I know if my email invitations went through?
Any guests who appear in the Guest List section of your party page should have an invitation waiting in their inbox. Please note that all invitations sent from the House Party website will be sent through email@example.com, not your personal email address. If your guests are reporting that your invitation didn’t go through, have them check their junk or spam folders.
- My invitations aren't sending. What should I do?
First of all, refresh your browser and clear your cache to clear unsuccessful attempts to send invites from your hard drive.
Try sending invitations again and make sure that you put commas between email addresses. If you still encounter problems after all these steps, try sending one at a time. Let us know if you continue to encounter problems with your invitations and we’ll explore the problem further.
- My guests aren’t receiving sent invites. How do I help them?
If your guest appears on your guest list on your party page, then the invitation was sent successfully. If a guest isn’t receiving your invitation, they should first check their spam folder or filter. The invitation might have been diverted there.
Also, some of your guests might have ISP's (such as schools or businesses) that have very strict firewalls which do not accept emails containing links. As your invitation includes a link for them to RSVP, such ISP's may prevent your invitations from going through. To avoid this you might try sending them to personal email accounts.
Invitations sent to a child's or a teen's email account may also not accept invitations with links. In this case, you might want to send the invitation to a parent's email address.
If for some reason you suspect that your guests are not receiving the House Party invitations, you can use your own email account to send an email blast out to your guests (this usually makes sure it's not flagged as spam) with the URL for your party page (found on the right hand side of your party page). Then your guest can follow the link, click the RSVP button on the party page, identify themselves by entering their email address, enter the number of additional people they're bringing and they're all set.
Please ask them to enter the same email address as the one you originally invited them with, so we’ll be able to connect them to your party. (This is our security feature, so strangers don’t play games by RSVPing to your party.)
- Can I RSVP for my guests?
No, not anymore.
House Party is making a concerted effort to improve the party experience for all of our members. With our new and improved invitation tool, your guests should now be able to RSVP successfully – we know that this presented some problems in the past. By having guests RSVP by themselves to your party using houseparty.com, we are making strides in preventing fraudulent activity that has frustrated our loyal, genuine House Partiers in the past.
Responsible party tips
- Why are certain House Party events limited to who can see them?
Some events are more specific to a certain age group while some events focus around products that carry legal restrictions around them, including but not limited to alcohol. Houseparty.com will always be the main hub for events, but some of these pages will not be available to members unless they meet age requirements. We want to make sure that people are seeing the events they WANT to see and the events that they are ELIGIBLE to apply for.
- What are some responsible Party Tips?
- Designate a bartender who can serve your guests and keep an eye on how much everyone is drinking. The Federal Dietary Guidelines define moderate drinking as no more than two drinks per day for men and one drink per day for women.
- Remember: alcohol is alcohol. It’s important to understand that a standard serving of beer (12 ounces), wine (five ounces) and spirits (a cocktail with 1.5 ounces of 80-proof spirits) each contains the same amount of alcohol.
- Make sure that you provide food to complement your cocktails. Consider food pairings to enhance the flavors of your chosen cocktails: fresh seafood and breads accentuate vodka cocktails, spiced and smoked meats and cheeses complement Bourbon and Scotch whiskies, and fruit enhances rum and tequila flavors.
- Make available non-alcohol beverages for your guests. Create festive non-alcoholic punch for those guests who choose not to drink alcohol.
- Make sure your guests have a safe way home either through designated drivers or a taxi. Have local taxi service numbers available for your guests.
- What is HouseLab?
HouseLab is a research-based initiative that invites House Party members like you to take surveys and polls either from the comfort of your own home or at a nearby location in exchange for cash or goodies. Getting started is simple:
- Complete your House Party profile: this allows us to get to know you better and offer you opportunities we think you’ll like.
- Then, answer a few simple questions so we can ensure you get invitations for HouseLab studies that are a good fit.
- Agree to participate in the HouseLab program and to receive invitations from our research partners.
This program provides a chance to be the first to try new products and services and share your feedback.
- Is it free?
Yes, participation in HouseLab is free. We’ll never charge you for joining or participating.
- What happens after I sign up?
As long as you checked the box to receive emails from us, we’ll email you when a research partner is interested in doing a study. You’ll receive an email with more information about the research opportunity when you're selected. Simply follow the instructions and you’ll be on your way to giving feedback and earning cash and/or other goodies.
- If I sign up, do I have to participate in every HouseLab?
No, signing up does not obligate you to participate. You'll receive an email which describes each HouseLab opportunity. That way, you can decide which programs you want to apply for.
If you apply, are accepted, and commit to a particular study, then it’s very important that you go to the partner website to accept the invitation. If you do receive an email indicating that House Party and/or one of our official partners wants you to participate, follow the instructions on the email and you’ll be on your way to giving your feedback and getting goodies.
- How often will I be asked to participate in a survey?
We use the information in your profile and the questions you answered to find the right study for you, so the number of opportunities will vary from person to person. It could be weeks or months between opportunities. We work closely with our partners to ensure that you understand what you have to do to participate in the study when we send you an invitation.
- Who will my information be shared with?
To ensure that you only receive invitations to research opportunities that are relevant to you, your information will be shared with only the clients and research partners that are participating in HouseLab. We value your membership and respect your privacy, so you will only receive emails and information from us here at House Party, unless you opt into other mailing lists. Your information will not be shared publicly or with any outside parties.
- Who do I contact if I need help?
As with any House Party initiative, our 24/7 Community Support team is ready to help you at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- How can I be a part of this?
If you want to join HouseLab, please visit https://houseparty.com/accounts/research_login

Privacy and sharing
- Do I have to link my Facebook or Twitter account?
You are not forced to link your Facebook, Twitter, or other accounts to the House Party website. However, doing so will allow you to tell your friends about some of the fun activities that you are involved in.
- Can everyone see the Group Photo I posted?
No. By default, the photo that you upload as your Group Photo will only be visible to you, the host, and your guests. It will not be seen by other party goers across the event or any other events. The host does have the ability to publish the photo - but we don't expect every host to do this. Hosts should only do this when all of the guests in the photo agree that it can be published like a regular photo uploaded to houseparty.com.
- What if my guests don't want to be in the photo?
If some of your guests would rather stay out of the photo, that's totally fine - we understand. We just ask that you take a photo with as many willing participants at your party. You could also try to explain to your guests how this is a new requirement that will ultimately benefit all participating hosts.
- Do all of my guests have to be in the photo?
We know it might be hard to get everyone to sit still for five seconds. While they do not absolutely have to be in the photo, we do want to see as many guests as possible. The more the merrier!
- I uploaded the wrong photo, can I do it again with a new picture?
Yes, you can complete the photo upload process a second time and show everyone an even better picture if you so desire.
- I am a host and I don’t have a digital camera, what should I do?
Well, we know that some of our hosts might have a few challenges with this new requirement, but you could ask a guest to bring a digital camera? Or maybe someone can take a photo with their phone and email it to you? There are a few other options that may require some teamwork, but I bet your guests would be up to it especially since this now part of the Party Pact.
- What if I don’t do this? What will happen?
Well, moving forward, this will work similarly to increase your chances. If you are a host who fulfills all the party requirements, which Group Photo is now a requirement, you will have a better chance of being selected for future parties. You will certainly a greater chance of future selection compared to someone who does not fulfill all the necessary requirements.
- I have extra Party Pack items from a House Party I hosted. Can I use them as giveaways on my blog?
No. Party Pack items are not not intended to be blog giveaways. Ideally, all Party Pack items will be used at your House Party.
We do understand that "life happens" and some guests may not be able to make it, so you may have a couple of leftovers. One way to use these leftovers is to give them to your friends and family members at your House Party to share with their friends and family members!
Of course, you are more than welcome to share your House Party story on your blog...not only are you permitted, you're encouraged!
If you're a blogger and are interested in working with House Party in the future, please feel free to let us know at email@example.com.
